At the beginning

The human being has always tried to communicate with his kind. Smoke signals were the beginnings of what will later become telephony.


The 19th century : starting point of the electrical communications

The real revolution occurs in the 1800s, thanks to electricity, with the invention of the telephone, first communication means allowing to carry the voice through long distances with a transmission of considerable speed.

Among the pioneers of this technology, were :

  • Charles Bourseul, who published his principle in 1854, but who could not achieve his works by lack of financial supports.

  • Antonio Meucci, less known, but who registered a patent for the invention of a device for the voice electronic transmission .

  • And finally Alexander Graham Bell, who invented and developed the telephone. The first call made in 1876 will be the initiation of a dazzling development in telecommunications.


From the first call to our days

In 1878, two years after this historical call, the first PBX will be put in operation. The following year, France will implement the technology.

In 1962, the first commercial telecommunications satellite, “Telstar”, will be put into orbit. « Telstar ».

The following years will benefit the telecommunications in multiple ways: improvements in performances, in communication quality, appearance of touch-tone telephones, GSM communications and so on…

In our days, the telephone has become a viable communication medium, for business or personal use, and whose possibilities can still to be diversified.
